Steven Universe: Warp Tour

Steven Universe: Warp Tour (travel size review!)

A
Stevens Universe has many Galaxies left undiscovered

Gems and Steven are back and they are finally letting viewers peak into the complex structure of the crystal gems origins. We seem to relatively accept the portals with little no question but after this episode everything done in this show should be looked at a little more closely. The audience should take a cue from Steven, everything observed and told should be taken with skepticism.

Poor Steven has allergies and a bad case of teenage angst. When his fellow gems refuse to believe a creature lurking outside the warp, he really lets emotions get the best of him. It is the first time I have seen Steven lash out at Pearl (Garnet had to intervene!) with such anger. This is a game changer episode for many reasons. Steven is seen more like a member and less like a boy ,The Gems have a bad memory of the past, and something wicked this way comes.

Cool Things Noticed:

  1. That green gem looked like Pearl Yes?
  2. “Steven your Fafsa!”
  3. Jump cuts were nice use of comedic timing of Stevens lack of sleep.
  4. Steven Jr. has been busy.
  5. I’m behind I know. So I am going to be doing travel size reviews until I am caught up! Hope you all do not mind!

  1. It was oddly satisfying to see Steven lashing out when he knows the Gems are just humoring him. And that ending was simply jaw-dropping. I hadn't considered that the Gems were cut off from the homeworld on purpose. What happened?? What's gonna happen??? I need answers!!
Peridot did kind of resemble Pearl. Sounded like her, too.

  2. Loved this episode for delving more into the history of the Gems and their current standing with their own kind back on the homeworld. Steven's paranoia and sleeplessness felt vaguely Lovecraftian in nature, with the pursuit of dark truths drives the protagonist mad. His laughing fit when Peridot's probe landed in his room especially brought that to mind. While I don't necessarily like to see him and the Gems not getting along, it's a great mark of growing maturity that he's able to assert himself outside of their authority. His argument with Pearl is probably the most intense I've seen the little guy since Lars talked ill of his mother.

If I were to venture a guess, I would say that the Crystal Gems are renegades from greater Gem culture for some reason. The higher-ups sent a contingent of Gems to capture them, forcing the Crystal Gems to destroy the homeworld warp to cut off the flow of reinforcements. Doing so had the unintended side effect of stranding the other Gems from their Gem Hearts (like the one in the center of the Gems' temple), gradually causing them to succumb to corruption. This led the Gems to devote themselves to containing their fallen comrades and finding a way to heal them.
